Lead Paint Booklet
Due to the concerns over lead paint in peopleˇ¦s homes, and the
medical issues that they might cause, many states have made
available to the public a lead paint booklet explaining what can be
done to protect them from this problem. These booklets will explain
to the public the dangers and obligations that the public may find
they have to deal with. To begin with, it explains that homes, it
can be houses or apartments, that were built before 1978, likely
have been painted with lead based paints. If the home you are
looking to purchase or to rent was built at that time the sellers or
the landlords are obligated to inform you that the home has lead
paint in it. Leases must mention the lead paint issue as must a
sellerˇ¦s contract.
The lead paint booklet will further explain what kinds of dangers
people are at risk for. It explains that the lead can be absorbed by
inhaling even more commonly that it can from digesting the lead. The
pamphlets talk about the dangers to younger children who are more
likely to get lead paint dust on their hands and then put their
fingers into their mouths or to eat peeled paint chips. Children
under four will eat almost anything. This is more of a concern
because younger children bodies absorb so much more of the lead than
their adult counterparts.
The booklet also explains what medical issues are most likely to be
a problem. It will explain that lead paint can poison the body of a
child causing kidney damage, learning disabilities, attention
deficit disorder, poor coordination, speech and hearing issues or
seizures. If the poisoning were bad enough it can ultimately cause
death. The booklets also explain what kind of medical issues adults
may have to deal with. These can include nerve damage, pregnancy
problems, fertility problems, digestive conditions and more. Reading
the lead paint booklet will give the average person a clearer
picture on what they dangers of lead paint poisoning are and how to
protect themselves and their families.
